Environmental pollution is one of the most critical challenges of our time and now, it’s part of the gameplay in SteamCraft! As part of our project’s mission to raise awareness about sustainability through digital learning, we’ve brought real-world environmental issues directly into Minecraft.
In STEAMCRAFT, players will experience the consequences of pollution firsthand. Activities like cooking or smelting with fire, as well as leaving CO₂-producing sources such as exposed lava pools, now release carbon dioxide into the game’s atmosphere. As CO₂ levels rise, visibility drops and breathing becomes more difficult just like in real life.
This new feature encourages players to think carefully about how they interact with the environment. Responsible resource use, clean technologies, and environmental protection become essential skills for thriving in the game world, and hopefully beyond it.
